William Gibson once wrote that 'the future is already here, it's just not evenly distributed'.

Unfortunately, the future is garbage, the Internet is shit, and culture is an open sewer. To make matters worse, not everyone is drowning at the same rate. Some 'people' think they are special, should have 'Calm Computing', 'Quality of Service', and should not be exposed to noxious technological stimulus at all times until the day they die. They unfairly and arrogantly elude the immiseration which is the rightful fate of all animals which profane nature with their technics: to first shape their tools and then be misshapen by them.

These 'people' must be chastened.

Since 2025, the World Harm Organisation and the Reverse Ubuntu Foundation have overseen the International User Experience Degradation Remittance Program. The way it works is simple: every time a piece of technology you use craps up, you get tokens which can be spent on attacking the devices of other users who are doing just a little too well. This could be as simple as introducing micro-stutters into their mouse movements, causing incorrect numbers to come out even though the right numbers were put in, or you could make it rain: triggering kernel panics, botching system updates, the choice is yours.

Of course, you don't actually get to choose or know who you are attacking: that would be a violation of privacy, and would go against the Reverse Ubuntu Foundation's fantastic mission of fostering nonspecific social mistrust, petty context-free malevolence, crippling anxiety, and what they call 'pervasive reverse bonhomie'.
